聊八卦的起手式常会说「听说.../据说...」，英文可以用这个句型来表达：

It is said / believed/ reported (that)…

＊以虚主词 it 开头，真正的主词是后面由 that 引导的名词子句。
＊句中说话者不明确或不重要，常用于表达传闻、普遍观点或不确定的资讯来源。
＊在口语或非正式场合，that 常被省略，且不影响句意。
 
 
例句：
 
It is said (that) a man once saw a large monster swimming in this lake.
据说有人曾经看见一只大怪物在这座湖里游泳。
 
It is believed (that) the house is haunted by several ghosts.
据信那间房子闹鬼。
 

⌞也可以将句型变化为不定词结构：

It beV believed/said/reported that + S + V…
→ S + beV believed/said/reported to + V…

It is said (that) this plant is able to heal certain illnesses.
→ This plant is said to be able to heal certain illnesses.
这种植物据说能够治疗某些疾病。
 
It is believed (that) these dinosaur bones are more than 100 million years old.
→ These dinosaur bones are believed to be more than 100 million years old.
这些恐龙骨骸据信有超过一亿年的历史。
 
It is reported that the popular politician is thinking about running for president.
→ The popular politician is reported to be thinking about running for president.
据报导那名受欢迎的政治人物正在打算竞选总统。
 
若 that 子句的时态为过去式或完成式时，不定词需改为 to have p.p.：
It is reported (that) a serious car crash happened near the school this morning.
→ A serious car crash is reported to have happened near the school this morning.
据报导今天早上学校附近发生了一起严重的车祸。
 
It was reported that the airplane had an accident just after taking off.
→ The airplane was reported to have had an accident just after taking off.
据报导这架飞机在起飞后不久便出了事故。
