英文常用关系子句来形容人事物，也常用动词或是介系词片语来表达附带的状态或特质。为了避免附带的情境让文句过长，可以将以上三者转换成复合形容词来让文句更简洁。以下介绍 7 种常见的组成结构：

 

▸ 形容词 / 副词 + 现在分词 带有主动意涵

例如：odd-looking、sweet-sound、nice-smelling、long-lasting、far-reaching、forward-thinking

Henry is a good-looking young man.
亨利是一位面貌英俊的年轻男子。

▸ 形容词 / 副词 + 过去分词 带有被动意涵

例如：soft-spoken、green-painted、purple-dyed、ready-made、low-paid、long-forgotten

The baker uses ready-made jam to make the cakes instead of making it by himself.
这位烘焙师利用现成的果酱做蛋糕，而不是自己制做果酱。

▸ 名词 + 现在分词 带有主动意涵

例如：eye-opening、money-saving、time-washing、heart-warming、man-eating、mouth-watering、energy-saving
