▍ until 直到...（为止） 

可当连接词引导子句，或是当介系词连接某一时间，表示某动作持续到其引导的时间为止。
 
 
 

例句：

We walked and walked until we reached our house in the mountains.
我们一直走一直走，直到抵达我们山上的家为止。
 
I slept until 10 a.m. yesterday.
我昨天睡到早上10点。
 
Please wait in this room until the doctor calls your name.
在医生叫你的名字前请在这间房间等待。
 
Jamie will only work at this shop until tomorrow.
洁米只会在这间店工作到明天。
 
Dan waited at the restaurant until 6 p.m. , but Julia never arrived.
丹在餐厅等到晚上6点，但是朱丽雅都没有出现。
 
I stayed at my friend’s house until we finished our homework together.

▍ not...until... （原本没有）直到...才...

示某一动作直到 until 所表示的时间才开始。

例句：

I can't get money from my bank until it opens on Monday.
我得等到礼拜一银行开门后才能领钱。
 
Bryan didn't know that he had cancer until he went to get a health check.
直到做了健康检查，布莱恩才知道自己得了癌症。
 
You can't have any ice cream until you finish your vegetables.
在你吃完蔬菜前不能吃冰淇淋。
 
I can't leave the office until I finish all my work.
在我完成我所有的工作前，我不能离开办公室。
 
I couldn't fall asleep until 2 a.m.
一直到凌晨两点我才睡得著觉。
 
Because it was dark, I didn't know the man sitting opposite me was my friend until about five minutes had passed.

也可以搭配「分裂句句型：it beV +not until...+ that + S + V」来强调语气，以下范例：

Home computers didn't become affordable for the average person until the early 1990s.
= It was not until the early 1990s that Home computers became affordable for the average person.
